Those are words used when your things be stolen.

それらはあなたの物が盗まれるときに使われる言葉です。

Did you have such experience?  I had once.  Once I was on business trip to Germany, after landed in Frankfurt airport, I went to train ticket office to buy train ticket to another city.  Just as I put down my bag and turned to ticket office to inquiry for seconds, I turned around and found my bag was no longer there.  Luckily,  I had my wallet and passport with me, inside bag there were only clothes, books and contact lens etc.

そんな経験はしたことがありましたか？ 私はありました。ドイツへの出張にすることなったした．フランクフルト空港に着陸した後、別の都市への列車の切符を買うために列車の切符売り場に行きました。私はそうばに私のバッグ置いて、切符売り場で数秒間問い合わせると、振り返ってみると、バッグがもうそこにない、盗まれた。幸いなことに、財布とパスポートを持っていて、バッグの中には服、本、コンタクトレンズなどしかありませんでした。

I went to Police Office to report the case, but it seemed there were so many cases like this, they could do anything.

警察署に通報に行ったのに、こんな事件が多かったようで、何もしてくれませんでした。

The same thing happened to my brother too, at the same airport, but he was not as lucky as me, he lost everything, including passport, phone and money.   Some kind people gave him EUR 200, at policy office, thankfully , he was able to return USA safely.  It was miracle！

同じ空港で私の兄にも同じことが起こりましたが、彼は私ほど幸運ではなく、パスポート、電話、お金を含むすべてを失いました。何人かの親切な人々は彼に200ユーロをくれてました、ありがたいことに、彼は安全に米国に戻ることができました。 奇跡でした。

 

人生に近道はありません

I have been thinking.  There isn't short cut in anything.  The reason Japanese people speak perfect Japanese is because they have been learning from the day they were born.  So do English speaking people.

Once a lady asked Beethoven "How I wish I could play like you."

Beethoven replied " Yes, Madam, You will, if you, like me, to play 10 hours a day and for 20 years. "

People often admire those who have succeeded, but no so many people see and are willing to pay the prices behind those successes.

So I remind myself, there isn't short cut in life in anything.

I was quite sad yesterday as I failed my listening in last week mock test. But come to think about it,  I didn't put enough effort into listening,  no excuse for myself. So, there is more to be done. FIGHTING！

 

 人生に近道はありません。

最近よく考えていました。確かに、人生に近道はありません。日本人は完璧な日本語を話せるのは、生まれた日から学んでいるからです。英語を話す人もそうです。

ある日、一人の女性はBeethoven に「私があなたのようにひければ 、よかったなぁ」と言った。

Beethoven 答えたした「私のように、毎日10時間、20年間弾き続ければ、できましよ、、、」

人は度マ、成功した人々を賞賛しますが、その成功の背後に代価をみて。それを支払う人はありません。を

だから、私は自分自身に言いみかせます、何も人生の中で近道はありません。

先週のモックテストで私の聴解に失敗したので、昨日私はかなり悲しかったです。しかし、それについて考えてみると、聴解には、あまり努力を払わなかった、自身の言い訳は出来ませんでした。だから、もっとやるべきことがあります。最後まで頑張ろう！

 One day, I was called to boss’s office the moment I arrived office.  He gave me a project which was absurd and ridiculous and asked me to complete within a week. I was shocked and wondering what was this coming from and tried to reason with him but was rejected harshly.  As I left his office downheartedly, suddenly, my boss jumped out from his desk and shouted “April’s Fool”.

 

ある日、会社に着いたとたん、上司のオフィスに呼ばれました。新しいプロジェクトがくれて、一週間以内に完了しなければならないといわれた。新しいプロジェクトは難しくて、面白そうたけれど、一週間以内に完了するのは無理だ思いたり、びっくりした。これが何から来ているのか疑問に思い、彼と推論しようとしましたが、厳しく拒否されました。 私が心を落ち着かせて彼のオフィスを去ったとき、突然、私の上司は彼の机から飛び出し、「エイプリルフール」と叫んだ。

No one knows  its exact history origin.  Some historian spectate the April Fools’ day can be traced back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calenda.  In Julian Calendar, the new year begin with the April 1.

People who were slow to get the news and failed to recognise that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and were called : “April fools”.  Some placed a paper fish on other people’s back and being refereed to Äpril Fish, said to symbolised a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.

ニュースを得るのが遅く、新年の始まりが1月1日に移動し、3月から4月1日までの最後の週にそれを祝い続けた人々は冗談の尻になり、「エイプリルフール」と呼ばれました。 他の人の背中に紙の魚を置いたり、「4月の魚」と呼ばれる人もいました。これは、若くて捕まりやすい魚と騙されやすい人どういう意味いると言われています。

     神様がいつも君を祝福してくださいますように！🙏

彼はここでのメッセージを読むことはないのに、とにかく彼の誕生日をここでを想っています。

笑ったり、泣いたり、嬉しくて、悲しくて...私たちは一緒にたくさんの思い出を共有しました。彼抜きでは、私の幼年期に何を残こせただろうか。

しかし、私たちが成長するにつれて、離がついにやってくる。知らず知らずのうちに、私は彼に私の問題を伝えるのをやめた……彼に心配させたくない、そしに彼にできることは何もないと思えて……

私たち二人は生活に新しい次元を持っています。過去は過ぎ去り、二度と戻らない。

Singlish

 

Singapore English is mainly based on UK English, who also referred as King’s English.  Everyone who visits Singapore can tell distinguish difference of Singlish from UK, USA, and other parts of English speaking countries.  Now Singlish has become recognised language widely used among Singaporean and local residents.  Here I introduce a few useful Singlish in daily conversation.

シンガポール英語は主に英国英語に基づいており、英国英語はとも王の英語を呼ばれます。シンガポールを訪れる人なら誰でも、シンガポールの英語と英国、米国、他の地域との違います。現在、シングリッシュはシンガポール人と地元住民の間で広く使われている認識された言語になりました。ここでは、日常会話で役立つシングリッシュをいくつか紹介します。

1.       Alamak:

Meaning:  Oh, my God,

Used when you express surprise, shock

Example:  You saw something outrage happened in the street, you could not believe your eyes , You can use “ Alamak”

 

2.       Siao:

Meaning: crazy, out of mind

Used when you want to refer to crazy person, often third person.

Eg.  “He is siao liao”  He has gone crazy;  it is better don’t use to your friends

 

3.       Peiseh”(pie-say)

Meaning: Embarrassed, awkward

Using when you made some mistake, or shy to do something

Eg, you were asked to speak in Japanese, but you don’t have confidence

You can say “ Peiseh, peisek”

 

Isn’t fun to learn different language….　別の言語を学ぶのは楽しいことではありません…。

 

Word of caution, only use those words with someone you know well, it should not be used in formal business setting.

 

注意: よく知っている人とだけこれらの単語を使用してください。正式なビジネス環境では使用しないでください。

うちの仕事

子どもの頃、わたしの家にはお手伝いさんはいませんでした。 父親はいつも新聞を読んだり飲んだりしていたので、家事は母親がをすべてやっていました。 しかし、夕食後に皿洗いをするのは兄と私にとっての仕事でした。

交代で皿洗いをしていましたが、週7日あるので、7日目になると誰が皿洗いをするのかといつもけんかをしていました。

When we were young, we didn’t have domestic helper.  Mother did all the household chores, while the memory of father was always, siting there reading newspaper or drinking.  But washing dishes after dinner was job for my brother and me.

We took turns to do the dishes, but, there are 7 days in a week, so when 7^th day came, we always argued who would do the dishes.

いつの間にか私たちは、最後にご飯を食べ終わった人が皿洗いをしなければならないということ合意っしてました。兄はいつも私よりもたくさん食べていたので、この合意が私に有利だと最初は感じました。でも、私は間違っていました。彼はほとんどいつも私終わよりも先に食べ終われました。 どんなに一生懸命頑張っても、いつも負けてしまいました。 それである日、もう我慢できなくなったので大声で泣きました。 その時、父は私の兄を厳しくしかつけました、それから、私の兄は7日すべてに皿を洗わなければならなくなりました。兄は長い間私を恨んでいた違いありません

Could not remember how it turned out, but, we agreed, whosoever finished last would have to do dishes. At first I thought this agreement was to my advantage, as my brother always ate more than I did…..but I was wrong, he also almost always finished before me.  I remembered no matter how hard I tried, I always lost.  So one day, I couldn’t take it any more, I cried loudly.  That alerted my father, who gave my brother a stern scolding, ended up my brother had to wash dishes on all 7^th day.  I think he resented me for this for long time.

大学入学試験を受けた年、私はとてもストレスを感じていました。 見かねて兄が「これからは全部皿洗いはじぷんがやるから」と言ってくれました、、、、、。

On the year that I had to university entry exam, I was very stressed.  My brother told me “ From now onwards, I will take over the all the washing” . 

 

今、私の兄はアメリカに住んでいます、私は彼がとても恋しいです。 わたしはいちどもいったことがありませんが、わたしよりかれをあいしている人世界中にいないとおもいます。

 

Now, my brother stays in USA, I miss him so much.

I just learnt only certain emjios carry special meaning for Japanese, Such as 💢, is only used when they are angry. I was quite shocked.

The learning language is not only gramma, vocabulary, certainly culture, way of thinking. Learning never ends.  Difficult, but, isn’t that is why fascinating

We should still be careful so that not to create misunderstanding.  Therefore, the environment like Hello Talk, where you don’t have to worry about mistake, and misunderstand, is really helpful.

The other day, I went out with my friend, we walked on the street, I repeated things we could see in Japanese.  My friend hit my head “ You are such ばか!” That was probably only Japanese he knew.　“Ouch!” I cried, but I still like him😊

 

つい最近、特定の絵文字が日本人にとって特別な意味を持っていることを知せられました。例えば、💢

が怒っているときにのみつかられました。本当にびっくりしました。誤解を生まないように気を付けてください

本言をいえば、そんな誤解は山ほどあります。言語学習は、文法など語彙 だけじゃなくで、確かに文化、考え方、やり方なども学ぶ必要があります。学習に終わりはありません。難しい、だから魅力的じやないですか。

あの日、友達と出かけて、道を歩きながら、見つけた日本語を読み上げました。面白がっていたのか、おごっていたのか、 彼は私の頭を、「バガだなあ！」と言ってはたきました。

 

それは、多分彼が知っていた唯一日本語でした。“痛い”.でも、彼が好きです。

Pet ペット

🐔🐣🐤🐥When we were young, our family had a hen, not much as pet , but rather as one who provided daily eggs.  She was really good worker for laying eggs.  Everyday, almost at exactly the same time, cluck (or cluck-cluck), she would proudly announcing to the world that she had done her job.  My brother and I would raced to the hen house to fetch egg.  My brother always won the race, he put his hand inside straws and put out the egg, then handed it to me。 The egg was still warm, I held with two hands feeling thrilled… gingerly brought it back to house.

Mother was supposed to have the hen killed for Chinese New Year’s feast, but my brother pleased for her life, so she stayed with us for long time. Till one day, she found dead near our house.  It appeared to be bit by dogs.  Mother cleaned up the hen and cooked it for a meal.  My brother cried💦💦… and refused to eat dinner that day.

 

Ever since then, I am also hesitated to have a pet for myself. I am not ready to handle the separation even with pet.🌈🌟⭐

 

🐔🐣🐤🐥子どもの頃、私たちの家には、ペットではなく、毎日卵をとるために鶏がいました。彼女は産卵のためには本当に良い労働者でした。毎朝、決まった時間、『コケコッコー』と大きく鳴くことで、彼女は自分の仕事を終わったことを誇らしげに世界に知らせました。兄と私は、卵を取りに行くために鶏舎に駆けつけました。 私の兄はいつもレースに勝ちました、彼はわらの中に手を入れて卵を取り出し、そして私に手渡しました。卵はまだ温かくて、両手で持ってワクワクして…丁寧に家にまで運び戻しました。

母は旧正月のごちそうのために鶏を殺すつもりでしたが、兄は彼女の命を助けてほしいとお願いをしました。そして、鶏は長い間私たちと一緒にいました。ある日、鶏が私たちの家の近くで死んでいるのを見つけました。 犬に噛まれたようにみえました。母は鶏をしようして、りょうりに使いました。 兄は泣きました。💦💦そしてその日夕食をたべないことにきめました。

 それ以来、私はペットを飼いたくありません。ペットでも別れられないとだろうと思います。🌈🌟⭐

Climbing Mountain

🧗🗻🌄子供の頃、天気が良く, 父の機嫌がいい日は、弟やわたしと一緒に登山に連れて行ってくれることが多かったです。その時、わたしたちはいつもワクワクして楽しみしてました。

ピクニックのために簡単な食べ物持ってきて、私たちは谷に行きました。そこでは、

名前の知らない美しい花、果樹をたくさん見たり。鳥の声を耳にしたりました。

時々、地元の村人に会い、挨拶を交わし、時には牛🐄や羊🐑などの面白いものにも会いました 。私はいつも熊さん🐻に会いたいと思っていましたが、残念ながら、会ったことはありません。

それから、山に登りました。とても長い登りのようでしたが、山に駆け上がって、ようやく頂上にたどり着きました。私たちの疲れのおれつまりもあったのだろう、素晴らしい景色を見ました。遠方を眺めつつ、そんな誇りと幸せな気持ちは言葉で言い表せませんでした。 

ほぼ毎回、父は私たちに詩を教えてくれるのが好きでした。今日まで、私はまだそれらの詩のいくつかを覚えています。 考えてみると、それがきっかけで山に登ったりハイキングをしたりするのが好きだったのかもしれません。

🧗🗻🌄When I was young, if it happened to be good weather, and if my father happened to be in good mood, he often brought me and my brother to climb mountains.  Those were times we were most looking forward.

Packing some simple food for picnic, we marched towards the valley, there were many beautiful flowers and fruit trees, whose names we didn’t know, the birds singing; sometimes, we met local villagers, whom we exchanged greetings and small talks; sometimes we could see cows and ships and other interesting animals.  (I always hoped to meet a bear, but sadly never happened).  From there, we took the way towards the peak.  After seemly very long time, we finally reached to the top of mountain, our tiredness was rewarded by breath taking view…. Looking the view from the top, that feeling of pride and happiness no words could describe.　At those moments, my father always would teach us poems, till today, I could still remember some of poems.  Coming to think about, that was perhaps the reason, after all I like climbing and hiking.

Culture different from language

It is interesting to observe culture different from language point of view:

Example 1:

In English 🐧“ I miss you”

In Japanese:😸 “きみはいなくてさびしいです。

 

Example 2”

In English  🐧“ I love you”

In Japanese 🐺“ 君のことがすきです。“

 

Notice that in English, the emphasis for both sentences are “I”, the verb “ Love” and “Miss” are active .

In Japanese, the emphasis was not “I”, in fact, “I” often be omitted.  There is no active verb, instead, replaced by adjective, “feel lonely”, “ like”

 If we were to translate both sentence from Japanese into English, it will become:

“Without you, (I) feel lonely”

“Your things, points (whatever ことmeans) (I) like”

Can you see the difference?

 In English context, feeling lone is not equal to “missing you”, there can be thousands reason of feeling lonely; but “ I miss you” is so clear to state “ You, is the one I miss, and now I feel lonely”

 In English, it is clearly said “You, as whole I love” not because of some of your ことs.  Also I love, not only like.  There is big difference of love and like in English.

 In one of Anime, there was script saying “ in Japanese “愛“ is equal to “無関心”, therefore, Japanese only use “好き“ but not “愛”

 I may never really understand 😊

 Anyway, Happy White Day, another unique day, may gentleman in Japan clearly convey their messages to their loved one . It is okay to say “ I love you and I miss you!”

勉強について

Dear Yoshida San:

 How are you?  I hope that everything is fine with you.  I really miss you and the time we had enjoyed last year.

 As for your question on studying English, I would like to share my experience in learning Japanese. but I find the following tips had been very helpful for me, for your kind consideration.

Set a goal for your learning.    

It is believed that if whatever you can think of , you can achieve it.

For me, I set a goal to pass JPLP one level per year.  ( I was too ambitious for N2 and N1 I guess, but it is no harm)

Before I set this goal, I was so serious about my studying.  But the passing exam for JLPT becomes main motivation to study.  In order to pass the exam, I have to study hard;  In return, I learnt more, and language study becomes fun;

The more you study, of course, the better you become, the more interesting you learn too.

 After setting goal, make sure to have plan.

It is not enough to have goal without plan.

Therefore , I set daily time to study, even someday I only have 30 min to study, it is better than nothing.  The foreign language does not come out naturally, we need to spend enough time to get to know it.  I guess, it is like a friend, you need to spend time with friend in order to know it better and become imitate.

Find the language partner who has the same or similar goals

 

It is not surprised that along the way, many have given up.  So finding a language partner can be huge help.  From Hello Talk to find foreign friends to be your language partner is also great help.  From helping one another, you have chance to expose to various topic, interesting expression, that creates virtual language environment.

Sometimes, just by reading the posts written by natives, you can learn lot of gramma, vocabulary, culture and many more.  As this moment, I don’t have confidence in speaking yet, but I want to challenge myself in time to come to practise speaking with those friends too.

 

Finally,   learning a language is a journey.   Take you time and find your own pace, mostly important, to Enjoy it.

英語の勉強について、私の日本語学習の経験を共有したいと思います。 以下のヒントは、私にとって非常に役に立ちました。

1.   学習の目標を設定します

何でも設定することができるものだといわれています。

例えば、私は1年でＪＬＰＴのレベル１に合格するという目標を設定しました。（実際、N2とN1は野心的すぎたと思いますが、害はないでしょう）。 試験に合格するには、一生懸命勉強しなければなりません。その見返りに、私はもっと学び、語学学習が楽しくなります。もちろん、勉強すればするほど、上手になり、面白くなります。

 

2.  目標を設定したら、必ず計画を立ててください

計画なしに目標を立てるだけではいけません。なので、毎日勉強する時間を設定しました。いつも勉強する時間が30分しかないけど、何もしないよりはましです。

外国語は自然には身につかないので、友人をつくるように 時間をかけて知っていく必要があります。

 

3.   同じまたは同様の目標を持つ言語パートナーを見つける

途中で多くの人が諦めること珍しくありません。言語パートナーを見つけることは大きな助けになります。お互いに助け合うことで、仮想言語環境を作り出すさまざまなトピック、興味深い表現に触れる機会があります。

時にはネイティブが書いた投稿を読むだけでーたくさんの文法、語彙、文化などを学ぶことができます。まだ自信はありませんが、友達と話す練習に間に合うように挑戦したいと思います。

最後に、言語を学ぶことは旅です。 あなたの時間をかけて、それを楽しむために、最も重要ことです。
